Gate monitoring for working ranches

Know the moment a gate opens — and have the record to prove it.

A wireless sensor on each gate texts you the instant it opens, closes, or gets left standing open. Every event is time-stamped and logged, so a loose-livestock dispute comes down to a record, not your word against theirs.

No Wi-Fi at the gate required. Alerts come by text, 24/7. Your $50 holds a founding spot and is refundable anytime before we ship.

Why it matters

An open gate at the wrong hour is a five- and six-figure problem.

When cattle get onto a road or a neighbor's place, the question is always the same: when did the gate open, and who left it that way? If you're in a closed-range state, the liability for a livestock-on-the-road incident can run from tens of thousands of dollars into the millions. Most ranchers find out a gate was open hours later — or only after the call. Gate Witness closes that gap.

01

You hear about it now

A text the minute a gate opens at an odd hour — not at sunrise when you go to check.

02

The gate can be miles off

A far gate, or one in the next county, doesn't get a nightly walk. The sensor watches it for you.

03

You have the record

Every open and close is time-stamped and kept — a plain, dated log if a claim ever lands on you.

How it works

One hub on your place. One small sensor per gate.

THE HUB

Mounts high, listens always

A solar-powered hub goes up on a pole or building. It's always listening for your gates and sends alerts out over the cell network — no internet or power run to the gate needed.

THE GATE SENSOR

Battery, no wiring

A sealed, battery-powered sensor mounts on each gate. It's designed to run for years on a single cold-tolerant cell and reports straight to the hub.

THE ALERT

A text, every time

Open, close, left-open-too-long, opened-at-an-odd-hour — you get a plain text. No app to babysit, no dashboard to watch.

Straightforward pricing

One hub, then pay per gate you actually watch.

The subscription is per hub — not per gate — so adding gates doesn't multiply your monthly bill the way per-gate competitors do.

Reserve your spot

Put down $50. Get it back anytime.

We're building Gate Witness for ranchers, and we want to build it for the people who'll actually use it. A $50 refundable deposit holds you a founding hub, locks your pricing, and tells us you're real — that's the whole point.

  • Fully refundable — ask for it back any time before your hub ships, no questions.
  • Applied to your order — your $50 comes off the price when you buy.
  • Founding pricing locked — $299 hub / $100 per gate / $39.99 a month, held for you.
  • First in line — reservations ship before general availability.

For the curious

The technical details

You don't need any of this to use Gate Witness — but if you want to know what's under the hood, here it is.

How do the gate sensors reach the hub without Wi-Fi?

Each gate sensor talks to the hub over a private, long-range, low-power radio link in the license-free 900 MHz band — the same band a lot of ranch and farm telemetry already uses. There's no public network and no internet at the gate. The hub is the only thing that touches the outside world, and it does that over the cell network.

The link is designed to reach roughly a half mile from hub to gate with the hub mounted high and the sensor down at gate height. Real-world range is one of the numbers we're confirming on our first field installs before we print a hard figure.

What about battery life on the gate sensors?

The gate sensor runs on a single cold-tolerant primary cell (the kind that holds up in hard winters) and spends almost all its time asleep, waking only to report. It's designed to run for years on one cell. We're pinning the exact battery life on our first installs rather than quoting a number we haven't measured in the field.

Does the hub need power and internet?

The hub is solar-powered with its own battery buffer, so it doesn't need a power run. It connects to the outside world over the cell network, so it doesn't need your Wi-Fi or a wired internet drop either — that connection is part of the monthly monitoring. Mount it high (a pole or a building, roughly 30 feet up) and keep the gate sensors low, and you get the honest range the system is designed for.

How secure are the alerts and the event log?

The radio link between sensors and hub is encrypted at the link layer, so a spoofed "gate open" can't quietly poison your record. The event log is kept time-stamped in the cloud. Hardening the chain so the log holds up as evidence is a core design goal, and the specifics are being finalized.

Is this a camera?

No. Gate Witness tells you a gate opened and keeps the dated record — it doesn't stream video you have to sit and watch. The alert is the product. (A camera add-on is something we're weighing for later, driven by what reservation customers actually ask for.)

A note on honesty: Gate Witness is in active development. Range, battery life, and the exact monthly connectivity cost are being confirmed on our first field installs — that's part of why we're taking refundable reservations rather than selling finished units today. Where we say "designed for" or "targeting," we mean exactly that.

Common questions

Before you reserve

Is the $50 really refundable?

Yes. It holds your founding spot and locks your pricing. Ask for it back any time before your hub ships and you get the full $50 — no questions. If you go ahead and order, the $50 comes off your total.

What if this can't be built, or something happens to you?

If for any reason I can't deliver — a technical dead end, my own health, or anything else — I refund every deposit in full and send everyone a notice. Your $50 is never at risk on my account.

Do you sell my information?

No. I do not sell your information under any circumstances whatsoever, and I do not give it away. I use it only to reach you about your reservation and this product — nothing else.

What makes you qualified to do this?

I was a software engineer for more than 40 years, 30 of them in Silicon Valley. I'm a named patent holder in software engineering, and I have extensive experience in IoT development — the exact field this product lives in. My LinkedIn profile is below so you can check me out for yourself: view my LinkedIn profile paste your LinkedIn URL.

When will hubs ship?

We're finishing field validation now. Reservation holders are first in line and will hear shipping timing directly from us before anyone else. Set an honest target window here once you have one.

How many gates can one hub cover?

One hub covers a cluster of gates within range on your property — add a sensor for each gate you want watched. If your gates are spread across a large spread, more than one hub may make sense, and we'll help you figure that out.

Will this lower my insurance premium?

We're not promising that. Carriers vary, and most don't adjust premiums for a device like this today. Gate Witness earns its keep by catching the event early and giving you a dated record if a claim ever comes — not as a premium discount.
